It’s not always easy to know what is open and closed on Easter weekend and this year things are even more confusing no thanks to the ongoing pandemic. To help, we’ve compiled a list of businesses that will not be operating under their usual hours all weekend.

Municipal offices
Most City of Montreal offices will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
The city’s 311 information line will operate throughout the Easter weekend, including on Good Friday and Easter Monday. You may phone 311 to confirm which offices are closed in your area.
Federal and provincial government offices
Federal and employment offices will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
Provincial offices will also be closed.
All online services offered by the city of Montreal will be accessible throughout the weekend. Any requests made by email during the long weekend will only be addressed starting on Tuesday.
SAQ & SQDC
The SAQ will be open from 10 am to 7 pm on Good Friday and 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday. On Easter Sunday and Monday, it will be open from 12 pm to 5 pm.
Meanwhile, the SQDC is open from 9 am to 9 pm Friday and Monday, 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and is closed on Sunday.
Collection services
Collection of garbage, recycling, and compost will be done on a regular schedule throughout the long weekend. For more information, visit ville.montreal.qc.ca/collectes or dial 311.
Cultural Centres
Museums will be open throughout the island, but we recommend you call to double-check the hours. For example, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will be open from 10 am to 5 pm all weekend (including Good Friday and Easter Monday).
The Biodôme, Botanical Garden, and the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan will also be open throughout the long weekend.
The city of Montreal’s sport and cultural centres will keep varying hours set by each individual borough throughout the long weekend.
Movie theatres are permitted to stay open.
Shopping
All major grocery stores in Quebec have stated that most of their stores will be closed on Easter Sunday. Those stores larger than 375 square meters in size are not legally allowed to be open on Easter Sunday. Grocery stores under 375 square meters in size, however, are allowed to open.
Montreal’s public markets, such as the Atwater Market, Marché Jean-Talon, and Marché Maisonneuve, will operate under regular hours.
Service-based businesses like beauty salons, gas stations, manufacturers, and so on, are free to open at the owner’s discretion.
Shopping malls such as the Eaton Centre will be open on Good Friday, Saturday, and Easter Monday but closed on Sunday.
Most pharmacy chains remain open all weekend during their usual hours.
Montreal’s corner stores and 24-hour chains will also remain open all weekend, at the owner’s discretion.
Transit
The STM will be operating but on special schedules all weekends and recommend travellers check their website for more information.
