Last weekend the Ile-aux-Tourtes Bridge linking Montreal to Ontario was shut down due to an emergency closure. Construction workers took advantage of the long weekend to continue working on fixing a large crack that was found in December of 2020.
The closure resulted in a chaotic traffic jam that forced dozens of schools to close in Vaudreuil-Soulanges and Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue.
Given the many complications that this closure caused, Transport Minister François Bonnardel announced at a virtual press conference Tuesday afternoon that the bridge will gradually reopen beginning Monday, May 31st with one lane in each direction open. Going forward, the bridge will open to more motorists every week until the project's completion on June 21.
