Poutine is sacred in Quebec, and since Montreal is the undisputed poutine capital of the world, this bit of news might be controversial.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that we take our poutine very seriously. It’s simple but perfect fast food, and like any good childhood staple, something we have fond nostalgic feelings towards. For many locals, the best poutine in Montreal is the one that evokes a memory, and if you ask any random ten people in the city, they will most likely give you a different answer.

And now, François Legault has decided to weigh in on the never-ending Great Poutine Debate.

In an Instagram post on Friday, the premier wrote that in his humble opinion, Resto Le L’Assom makes the best poutine in all of Quebec. Legault went so far as to defend his choice, jokingly saying “once you take a bite of it, you can’t stop.”

He went on to praise the poutine as being a 9.5/10 and says the dish is “worth the detour.”

The establishment was clearly happy with his announcement and quickly took to Facebook to share in their delight.
