The pressure to be perfect is something that many people experience. However, when does it start to get out of hand?
A poll conducted with 2,000 women from ages 18-65 revealed that 8 out of 10 women experience societal pressures when it comes to having the ‘perfect underarm’.
In a world where women often feel the pressure to be perfect (whatever that means anyway), this poll revealed some of the major armpit concerns that women typically experience: hair (39 per cent), sweat (39 per cent), and odour (37 per cent) leading the list. Some even feel the stress when it comes to the shape and size of their underarm.
These concerns are said to begin near the age of 14 in women, typically due to the fact that their peers begin certain routines and treatments to remove any signs of hair, sweat, and odour around that time. Aesthetic or not, many of us can agree that the societal pressures that women face are beyond unrealistic.
On the brightside, conversations like these are becoming more common and women everywhere are looking to end these unrealistic expectations. Some celebrities that are joining in on these conversations include Madonna, Willow Smith, Miley Cyrus, and so on. From speaking out to sharing photos, these women in the media are actively normalizing what it means to be a woman, in the purest form.
What do you think? Is it time to put an end to perfect armpit pressure?
