If there is one thing Canadians won’t be grateful for this Thanksgiving weekend, it’s the increased price of gas across the country.
Gasoline prices shattered all-time records in many parts of Canada, reaching a seven-year high right before the long weekend.
Data from Natural Resources Canada, which tracks fuel prices, shows the average weighted national retail price for regular gasoline in Canada hit $1.45 per litre this week. That’s up more than 40 cents year-over-year and the highest weekly average price on record.
Meanwhile, GasBuddy.com reports that the average gas in Montreal currently sits at a little over $1.47. In the province of Quebec, it hovers at around $1.44.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, sources say the price at the pumps can jump again across the country thanks to increased demand and undersupply of oil globally.
