Did you know that we are currently facing a worldwide paper shortage?

In the wake of lockdown, everyone turned to their books for comfort and entertainment. However, the increase in book sales was something no one could have predicted:

“The number of books sold in Quebec rose by nearly 30 per cent between April 2020 and April 2021, taking paper companies by surprise. Because of the seemingly dwindling interest in buying printed books, some businesses had pivoted to packaging paper while others had stopped operating altogether,” according to CBC.

With the increase in demand for paper and lack of resources available, this may also affect the cost of book sales as it has become more difficult to produce.

Quebec bookstore owner Philippe Sarrasin says that they are stocking up earlier than before as they fear certain books will go out of stock faster.

Is it time we turn to digital for good?
