The cost of renting an apartment in Montreal has been a hot topic of debate recently, and a new report looks to shed some light on just how expensive rent is when compared to other cities in Canada.

The most recent National Rent Report from Rentals.ca and Bullpen Research and Consulting reveals that, out of the 24 biggest cities across the country, Montreal ranks as the 17th most expensive market.

The average rent for all Canadian properties listed on Rentals.ca in December was $1,789 per month (up 3.8% annually).

The average rent for a one-bedroom home in Montreal in December hovered around $1,507, while the average rent for a two-bedroom is $1,982.
