It’s International Women’s Day and we’re all about highlighting female empowerment… While the focus might be heightened on March 8th, we all know that women deserve the recognition they deserve on a daily basis, truthfully.

While the holiday has only been internationally celebrated in more recent decades, women in history have been shocking the world for many centuries before that.

Here is a short list of random facts about women in history that really exemplify the power of female and the boundaries they have pushed to get us to where we are today:

  • Women around the world have come up with essential innovations over the years… Some of which we couldn’t nearly live without today, such as: The windshield wiper, non-reflective glass, disposable diapers, white out, and industrial lathes, among many others.
  • Women of the 19th century refused to say the word ‘leg’ as they felt it was too promiscuous for their liking and instead went with ‘limb’ instead.
  • To intimidate men of the 1600s, women started wearing heels to question their masculinity and status.
  • At the time, women could only compete in ice skating in the 1924 Olympics. Fifteen women were allowed to perform in total, helping to pave the way for future female athletes.
  • Two of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were created by women: the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were planted by the Assyrian Queen Semiramis; and the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus was built by Artemisia, queen of Caria.

Pretty amazing, ain't it?!
