Looks like Montrealers will soon be able to ride the Metro accompanied by their furry friends…
Earlier this week, Montreal City Council announced that pet owners will be allowed to bring their leashed dogs onto Montreal’s Metro system by the end of this year.
This decision comes after an online petition from the SPCA was signed by over 17,000 people supporting the idea.
While this next move will serve many purposes, the SPCA's legal services director, Sophie Gaillard, explained that this will mainly benefit animals with low income owners. Giving them the access will help owners bring their pets around the city more freely to get the services they need without worrying about additional transportation costs.
With the support from Mayor Valerie Plante, the STM must now come up with an appropriate plan that will keep in mind of commuters with allergies and phobias. An already suggested solution is to permit pets during specific hours and train carts.
