Mask mandates in the province will officially be lifted on Saturday, May 14th, the first time to happen since the started of the Covid-19 pandemic for Quebecers.
Masks will no longer be required in public spaces, with the exception of public transit, in health-care settings, at long-term care homes, and at other places where any health care is provided.
The elderly are still encouraged to wear masks in public spaces, as they are the most vulnerable.
In addition, Boileau has shared that they do not wish to return to this mandate moving forward: “We strongly suggested, as a recommendation, that the people could evaluate their own risk and see if they wish to take some personal measure."
Health officials would like to remind Quebecers that those infected with the BA.2 variant are contagious for up to 10 days, and should be isolated for a minimum of 5 days. They add that when infected, it is not the time to go to restaurants or invite company over after the 5 day quarantine period is done.
Quebec is the last province in the country to lift mask mandates.
