Bob Mackie believes Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe's dress to the 2022 Met Gala was a "big mistake".
The reality TV star walked the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York earlier this month sporting the crystal-studded gown made by Jean Louis that the Hollywood icon famously donned to sing Happy Birthday, Mr. President to U.S. President John F. Kennedy in 1962.
However, legendary fashion designer and costumier Mackie wasn't thrilled by the outfit choice.
"I thought it was a big mistake," he told Entertainment Weekly. "(Marilyn) was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous. Nobody photographs like that. And it was done for her. It was designed for her. Nobody else should be seen in that dress."
Mackie started his career as a sketch artist for French couturier Louis, and drew the original design for Monroe's shimmering gown.
The provocative dress was purchased by executives at Ripley's Believe It or Not! in 2016 for a staggering $4.8 million (£3.8 million). Kardashian changed into a replica, also owned by Ripley's, shortly after she arrived at the Met Gala.
The 83-year-old recently spoke with the outlet to promote the Turner Classic Movies' upcoming series, Follow the Thread.
