Quebec is officially changing how tipping works — and it all starts today!

As of now, restaurants, bars, and cafés across the province will calculate suggested tip percentages based on the pre-tax total, not the final bill amount.

This change is part of Bill 72, which aims to make pricing and payment practices more transparent for customers.

To recap: standard tips like 15%, 18%, and 20% will now apply to your pre-tax subtotal. Of course, tipping is still optional — you can adjust the amount or skip it altogether.
