Have you recently purchased a patio umbrella sold at a Canadian Costco? Well, you might want to double check the label…
Last week, Health Canada issued a recall on “SunVilla 10 foot Solar LED Market Umbrellas” sold in Costco from January 2021 to May 2022 due to a potential fire hazard warning:
“The lithium-ion batteries may overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard. As of June 9 2022, the company has received 1 report of a battery overheating and an umbrella catching fire in Canada, and no reports of injuries.”
Around 32,702 umbrellas were sold in Canadian Costcos and Health Canada is informing the public that they should immediately stop using the recalled umbrella, remove the Solar Panel from the top of the umbrella, and store the panel out of the sun and away from combustible material.
Consumers also have the right to return the patio umbrellas to their local Costco for a full refund.
