Scotland has now become the first country ever to provide free menstrual products to its people.
The Free Provision Bill was put into place by Scottish MP Monica Lennon to tackle "period poverty" to those who struggle to afford basic necessities.
With this great news, Canada is congratulating such a landmark achievement and is now putting pressure on the federal governments to do the same. As of 2015 Canada has stopped charging taxes on menstrual products so let's hope they will finally offer this necessity to those who need it at no cost.
In 2021 The Liberals created a menstrual equity fund of $25 million for Women and Gender Equality Canada over the next two years that aims to make menstrual products more accessible to Canadians.
