When it comes to receiving advice, not everything we hear is truly all that great… Especially when the advice hasn’t been followed through from the person providing it.
In the search to find the worst advice ever given, we came across a thread on Reddit.com that breaks down the most common sayings that are actually terrible advice.
While some were just outright ridiculous, here were some of our top picks that we found both true as well as incredibly relatable:
- “Try everything once.” Well, maybe we shouldn’t try everything.
- "Never, ever give up!" Sometimes, things just aren’t worth our energy.
- “Just be yourself.” Well, sometimes that doesn’t always work.
- “You can be whatever you want to be if you put your mind to it.” While putting in effort and trying our hardest to follow our dreams is important, it just isn’t always possible.
- "Do what you love and you will never have to work another day in your life." Not everything we love is always easy.
- "It doesn't matter who started it." Context is everything.
- "When one door closes another one opens." What if we just want to shut and lock that door for good?
- “Time heals all wounds.” Sometimes the longer time goes, the harder things can be for people.
- “If it doesn’t kill you it makes you stronger.” Hard experiences can leave long-lasting negative effects on people.
- “Forgive and forget.” Forgiveness is important, but we should learn from our moments of pain… and not forget.
While these may come off rather pessimistic, some do hold relevance and truth.
How many of these statements do you agree with?
