There is only one word to describe what this last week has been like for Montrealers: Nightmare.
From loss of power, damaged property due to breaking trees, flooding, and loss of cell service… The past few days have really started to look a lot like the Ice Storm of 1998.
Thousands of Montrealers still remain without electricity after Wednesday’s ice storm, and it’s starting to sound like most Montrealers won’t get power back until Monday, according to officials.
“At a news conference Saturday, Hydro-Québec said it is hoping most households will regain power by the end of the weekend, but couldn't give a precise timeline,” stated CBC. “Some may stay without power until Monday as about 1,500 workers are on the ground working to restore power lines.”
While Hydro-Quebec teams are working endless hours to help the remaining 200,000 customers get their power back, Montrealers are finding themselves seeking warmth and electricity in shopping malls, shelters, and more.
Throughout the long Easter weekend, the city of Montreal has decided to open up various warming and charging stations for the community to resort to. Especially since many businesses had plans of closing their doors for the holidays, thousands of people are in need of warm food and shelter during this time.

Over one million people were stuck without power after Wednesday night’s storm, in addition to two deaths that were related to the storm.
