After a month-long closure due to a strike, Montreal's Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery has officially reopened to visitors.
When the cemetery announced that it would remain closed this past Father's Day, reactions from Montrealers were unanimously unsettled. Fortunately, this past Monday marked the near complete reopening of the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery.
This is the first time the cemetery opens three of its gates in over 6 months. "It's more than just a cemetery. For some people, this is their life. When you've lost someone you love, and you're all alone, where do you turn? You come here," said Sotiria Klironomos, whose father's gravesite is at the cemetery, in an interview.
Despite the gradual reopening of the cemetery, workers of the burial ground can still be seen picketing at its entrance, demanding contracts.
