A date has been set for Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner's child custody trial.

According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, a New York judge ruled on Tuesday that the Jonas Brothers star and Game of Thrones actress would start trial on 2 January next year in Manhattan over the custody of their children.

The outlet confirmed on 5 September that Jonas had filed for divorce from Turner after four years of marriage. Since the divorce filing, the former couple have begun a custody battle over their two daughters.

The singer and British actress share two children together: Willa, three, and Delphine, 14 months. Turner has argued that the kids should join her in England, while Jonas has insisted they stay in the United States.

Legal documents reveal that both daughters are dual citizens of the US and the United Kingdom.

"Joe is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also OK with the kids being raised both in the US and the UK," an attorney for Jonas said in a statement last month. A later statement added, "The children were born in the US and have spent the vast majority of their lives in the US. They are American citizens."

Willa was born in California, while Delphine was born in Florida.

In a September filing, Turner argued that she and Jonas had "not, until April 2023, committed to settling down roots in any particular place", adding, "The parties regarded England as a safe location to raise their children."

The New York judge ruled that Willa and Delphine should stay in the US until the custody case resolves.

Turner has requested that the trial take place in an English court. Jonas has opposed the request.
