Snoop Dogg has revealed that he is kicking his smoking habit.

The iconic rapper, whose image has been closely tied to smoking marijuana since the beginning of his career, took to Instagram on Thursday to reveal that he is giving up.

"After much consideration & conversation with my family, I've decided to give up smoke," Snoop wrote in the post. "Please respect my privacy at this time."

The 52-year-old reiterated in the caption, "I'm giving up smoke."

He has revealed no further details.

The comments section of the post was soon filled with sceptical fans.

"Say it ain't so Doggfather!," one fan commented, while another wrote, "You will never quit, you pause..."

However, many other fans were quick to show their support for the hip-hop icon, with one fan commenting, "That's so good, you can do it!"

Snoop, real name Calvin Broadus Jr., has been vocal about his passion for marijuana throughout his decades-long music career. The Gin and Juice rapper even revealed that he had employed a full-time personal joint roller, named Renegade Piranha.

Last year, Renegade revealed that she had rolled "over 450,000 joints" for Snoop since she bagged the job. She added, "I do about half a pound a day, which is 75 to 150 joints."
