Taylor Swift's publicist has shut down the "insane" claim that the singer was secretly married to Joe Alwyn before they split up.

The celebrity gossip Instagram account DeuxMoi claimed on Friday morning that the Shake It Off singer and the British actor had a commitment ceremony in 2020 or 2021 before they broke up earlier this year.

Taylor's longtime representative Tree Paine, who rarely comments on rumours, swiftly shut down the allegation on X/Twitter.

"Enough is enough with these fabricated lies about Taylor from Deuxmoi," she wrote. "There was NEVER a marriage or ceremony of ANY kind. This is an insane thing to post. It’s time for you to be held accountable for the pain and trauma you cause with posts like these."

In the original post, DeuxMoi claimed that the alleged ceremony had been described as a "marriage" but it was never made legal.

After Tree's post, DeuxMoi responded, "Well I make zero dollars from lying... can publicists say the same... Also, to relate something that is in reference to something that happened years ago to 'pain & trauma' after what just happened seems like a poor choice of words. Either way, I apologize to Taylor."

It was reported in April that Taylor and Joe had broken up after six years together.

Fans questioned the timeline of their relationship earlier this week after Taylor's collaborator Jack Antonoff revealed they wrote the break-up ballad, You're Losing Me, in December 2021.

Hours before her message, Tree and Taylor attended the London premiere of Beyoncé's documentary concert film Renaissance. The 33-year-old was returning the favour after Beyoncé attended the Los Angeles premiere of her Eras Tour concert movie in October.
