Sad news, Montreal… The beloved Just for Laughs 2024 festival will not take place this year.

The organization behind the festival, Groupe Juste pour rire inc. (“JPR”), announced the cancellation of the 2024 festival following its application for creditor protection.

In their press release, the group said that they “plan to maintain JPR’s operations, albeit in a scaled-down format, throughout the restructuring process.”

JPR also said that once the restructuring is done, they hope that the festival will take place in 2025.

The group shared different reasons for restructuring such as the impact of the pandemic, challenges in the free festival industry, inflation, and other factors.
