Around 5,000 SAQ employees are set to strike on Wednesday and Thursday if there is no progress in negotiations by then.
The union representing the employees, Syndicat des employé-es de magasins et de bureaux, disclosed that almost 70% of SAQ employees work part-time or on-call, leading to uncertainty about their hours for the upcoming pay period.
The union is advocating for improved job security measures and quicker access to group insurance for SAQ employees. Additionally, employees are requesting the ability to assemble internet orders in-store, along with an increase in the number of wine consultants and branch coordinators to enhance customer service.
Should the strike continue, it would mark the initial two days of strike action out of a 15-day strike mandate approved by union members.
