Miley Cyrus has reflected on how being a child star has "shaped" her.
The singer and former Disney star has opened up about how her unique childhood has affected the way she connects with people.
"Obviously, (being a child star) shaped me into a very different adult than some of my peers or my friends," Miley told Harper's Bazaar in a new interview. "It is just a really different childhood to have."
The Flowers hitmaker continued, "For a while, I thought it got in the way of me connecting with people."
When asked if she finds it easy to form relationships with other people, the 31-year-old explained that it's not that straightforward.
"I don't even know how to really answer that, because for who I am as a person, yes, I feel like I can connect to people and I feel like I'm a friend to all," she told the publication. "But because of how I've grown up, sometimes people make it harder."
The star added, "I can drop my persona really easily, but it's hard for other people to erase that part of you."
Miley became a teen idol at the age of 13 when she starred in Disney Channel's Hannah Montana, which ran from 2006 to 2011. She released her debut studio album in 2007 and has since gone on to release seven more albums.
Elsewhere in the interview, the Grammy winner expressed sympathy for 26-year-old hitmaker Chappell Roan, who was criticised online after she took to TikTok in August to ask fans to treat her with respect.
"I wish people would not give her a hard time," Miley said. "It's probably really hard coming into this business with phones and Instagram. That wasn't always a part of my life, and I'm not a part of it now. I don't even have my Instagram password."
