Mac Miller's family have decided to officially release his 2014 album Balloonerism.

The rapper, real name Malcolm McCormick, died from an accidental drug overdose at the age of 26 in September 2018.

In recent years, fans have asked estate officials to drop the record, and in a statement published via Instagram on Thursday, they announced it will be available from 17 January 2025.

Noting that Mac made Balloonerism around the same time he recorded his mixtape Faces in 2014, a spokesperson for the family explained that work on the 2015 album GO:OD AM ended up becoming his priority.

"It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm - to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately GO:OD AM and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence," they wrote.

In addition, the McCormick family rep indicated that they hope Mac's dedicated fans will be pleased to listen to the album in its entirety.

"We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world," they added.

Balloonerism will be the second of Mac's albums to be released after his shock death.

Circles, which he was working on before he passed, was unveiled in January 2020.

Balloonerism is now available to pre-order.
