One of Montreal’s most iconic landmarks, the Mount Royal Cross, is officially celebrating its 100th anniversary. First illuminated on Christmas Eve in 1924, the cross has stood as a beacon of community spirit for generations.

The idea for the cross was first proposed in a St-Jean-Baptiste Day sermon in 1874, but it wasn’t until 1924 that the vision became a reality.

Standing at an impressive 33 meters tall and 10 meters wide, the Mount Royal Cross can be seen from as far as 80 kilometers away.

Over the years, it has become a symbol of Montreal’s resilience and unity, lighting up the skyline through decades of change.
