Montreal is taking steps to support its residents with more affordable housing!

The city has announced plans for a 1,030-unit housing project at the former Berri bus terminal site (Îlot Voyageur Sud). According to a news release shared on Monday, January 27, over half of the units will be designated as affordable housing.

The project, proposed by UTILE and Mondev, will be located at the corner of De Maisonneuve Boulevard and Berri Street in Ville-Marie. The envisioned building will range between 14 and 20 storeys, with approximately 430 units reserved for students. Additionally, the non-profit organization Maison des gens de lettres will provide 100 social housing units.

Plans also include commercial and community spaces on the ground floor, creating a vibrant and inclusive environment.

While a timeline for the project hasn’t been set yet, UTILE CEO Laurent Levesque mentioned that it could be completed within four to five years.
