A bittersweet farewell for Montreal—the Old Port ice skating rink is closing forever after 32 years.

Originally opened in 1992, the rink has become too costly to maintain in recent years. A spokesperson explained that the refrigerated system was built for another era, making upkeep increasingly expensive.

While it’s the end of an era, Montrealers can still enjoy winter on ice. The city has been investing in other skating rinks, ensuring there are plenty of places to glide this season. Check out the full list of open rinks here.
