The Quebec government has made it official—cellphones will be completely banned in elementary and secondary schools starting next year.

The news was first reported by Radio-Canada and later confirmed by La Presse on Thursday morning.

While phones have already been banned in classrooms since January 2024, the new measures extend the ban to include breaks and all school grounds.

Education Minister Bernard Drainville is expected to make the official announcement later on Thursday in Quebec City.
