Miley Cyrus wears "modest" swimsuits because she is "still so insecure" about her body.

During an interview for the latest episode of the Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky podcast, the Flowers singer recalled how she was targeted by online trolls around the time of her infamous performance alongside Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV VMAs.

"People were putting my head on different, very unattractive things," she said. "I still see that when I put on a bathing suit to this day. I wear very modest bathing suits."

Miley went on to describe how on a recent girls' trip she opted to wear shorts while "everyone else had on a string bikini".

"I don't even know if people wear tankinis anymore. I was wearing like a tank top," the 32-year-old continued, while host Monica added: "You're bringing them back."

"My sister goes, 'You're you, so this is cool. I guess this is in now. You're making this cool. But, like, you know this is what a grandma wears to the beach.' It just hit me, like, 'Oh, I'm still so insecure about those memes about my body," the Wrecking Ball hitmaker continued.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Miley recounted how her brothers and sisters were also affected by the controversy surrounding her in 2013. The popstar has five siblings - Brandi, 38, Trace, 36, Christopher, 33, Braison, 31, and Noah, 25.

"There was even a time where my brother and sister didn't want to go to school because of how humiliated they were to be related to me," she added. "I remember my brother at one point he was saying, 'I don't judge you, but you could understand how hard it is for me to go to school, and you be my sister.' I was a hard sibling to have as a little girl, so I was like, 'All right, we're even.'"
