Sam Claflin has revealed that cast of Daisy Jones & the Six were set to perform at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards before the live show was scrapped due to the writers' strike.
The 2023 miniseries followed a fictional '70s rock band of the same name, with the Peaky Blinders actor playing musician Billy Dunne alongside Riley Keough and Suki Waterhouse as his bandmates.
Ever since the series was released, fans have been clamouring for a second season, or for the actors to go on a live tour.
Claflin has now revealed to Metro.co.uk that they had "initial conversations" about performing live together and were planning to do so at the annual awards show before the in-person ceremony was scrapped and replaced by a pre-recorded virtual one.
"We had the opportunity of playing at the MTV Movie Awards, which we rehearsed for," he shared. "We were rehearsing, and I think it was the day before the MTV Movie Awards, the writers' strike happened, so loads of actors and acts were pulling out in solidarity with the writers. We were advised to do the same, so we reluctantly agreed to pull out."
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire star noted that by the time the writers' and actors' strikes came to an end in November 2023, they felt like "too much time had passed".
He explained that while they were interested in a tour, it was "proving difficult" to align the schedules of all six members of the band.
However, the British actor "would love" to reunite with his co-stars for a second series. He even met with Keough and the book's author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, in Los Angeles in November to try and "think up ways" to make another outing work.
"We don't want to rush anything if there was to ever be anything. But all I know is the desire is there across the board," he added.
Daisy Jones & the Six was nominated for three prizes at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards but came away empty-handed.
That was the most recent ceremony, as the 2024 and 2025 editions did not take place.
