After making headlines this week over a request to change its sign, the Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF) has announced that it will allow Pub Burgundy Lion to keep its sign as it is.

Earlier this week, Toby Lyle, co-owner of the establishment, said he had been told by the OQLF to add more French to the sign, as “Burgundy” was not French. Lyle argued that the sign respected language laws and that the name referred to the neighbourhood of Little Burgundy.

Following a review, an OQLF spokesperson confirmed that the sign is in fact compliant and said the organization had contacted Pub Burgundy Lion to inform them of the decision.
