Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Montreal… but it looks like groceries are set to become even more expensive across the province in 2026.
According to Canada’s Food Price Report 2026 from Dalhousie University, food prices are expected to rise between 4% and 6% next year.
That means the annual grocery bill for an average family of four could jump from $16,655 in 2025 to $17,572 in 2026.
Meat is expected to see the biggest increase with prices rising 5% to 7%, followed by vegetables at 3% to 5%. Restaurants are also expected to cost more, and dairy and eggs could see increases of 2% to 4%.
