As the Montreal International Jazz Festival heads toward its grand finale, the festival has officially recognized Patrick Watson as the 14th recipient of the Montreal Jazz Festival Spirit Award!
The award recognizes the quality and innovation of an artist’s work, as well as their influence on international popular music as a whole.
Being one of the most influential voices in today’s contemporary music scene, Watson has spent the past 20 years developing his unique universe, where orchestral music, indie pop, and sound experimentation beautifully blend.
Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada presented the Montrealer with his prize today, July 2, 2026.
Upon accepting the award, Watson mentioned how the only way to make his way into the Montreal music industry was to be completely original. He noted that copying other Montreal musicians was very much frowned upon within the community.
The musician added that being a part of Montreal is a true gift, and shared how deeply honored and proud he is to be here every day.
Make sure to catch the Montreal icon on Friday, July 3 at 9:30PM for a free outdoor concert at Quartiers des Spectacles.
Congratulations to Patrick Watson! Montreal is very proud of you!
