Lucy Hale has announced the death of her father, Preston Hale.
In an emotional obituary posted to Instagram on Monday, the Pretty Little Liars actress confirmed her dad passed away "suddenly" on 17 July. He was 68.
"My dad was mind-numbingly funny, sensitive, and deeply kind. He adored his family, my stepsisters, all his grandbabies, his dogs (and mine), his lifelong friends, and my stepmom, Stacy - the love of his life," she wrote alongside a slideshow of throwback photos. "He was so proud of his career in farming and of his hometown of Milan, Tennessee."
Lucy went on to describe Preston as a "true Southern man" who loved fishing, hunting, golfing, and farming. She also reflected on the "deep soul bond" she shared with her father.
"Our last conversation was beautiful. The last time I saw him was beautiful. Our last phone call was perfect," the 37-year-old recalled. "My sister Maggie happened to be in town visiting me in L.A. when we got the call. She was sitting no more than three feet away from me. That's something only God and my dad could have orchestrated. I can't imagine receiving that call alone or walking through these first surreal days by myself."
To conclude the heartfelt message, Lucy emphasised that she has been relying on her "spirituality and my beliefs" at this "incredibly difficult time".
"You are a legend, Daddy. Thank you for the lessons, the memories, the unconditional love, and for being the exact father I needed in this life. I'll love you in this lifetime and all the others. Watch over us. Rest easy," she added.
Following the sad news, a number of celebrities expressed their condolences to Lucy and the Hale family.
"Sending u so much love," wrote Demi Lovato, while Lily Collins commented: "I'm sending my love and all the hugs possible. I'm so sorry."
A funeral service for Preston will be held in Milan, Tennessee on Wednesday.
