Here’s What to Know About This Week’s Lunar Eclipse

Just two weeks after the solar eclipse, the sky is getting ready for its next spectacle: a deep partial lunar eclipse on the night of August 27–28.

As Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, it casts a shadow across the lunar surface. Sunlight bending through Earth's atmosphere will give the Moon a coppery reddish tint.

Viewing Schedule (Eastern Time):

  • 10:34 PM: The eclipse begins
  • 12:13 AM: Maximum eclipse (peak view)
  • 1:52 AM: The eclipse ends
