If you offered your child a doll from Dollarama recently, you might want to check if it matches this recall! These recalled toys, sold at Dollarama stores across the country, contain levels of chemicals above the accepted norm.
The dolls affected by the recall are the MONTOY brand “Little Princess Doll” and were sold between September 12, 2017 and December 18, 2018. That means children could potentially have been applying with dolls that contain toxic chemicals for over a year, and parents are only just learning about it now.
There are six colour variants of the dolls affected by the recall:
- Brown hair, yellow dress
- Blonde hair, blue and pink dress
- Red hair, blue dress with yellow outline
- Red hair, pink dress
- Black hair, purple and pink dress
- Blonde hair, blue and orange dress

If you have any of these dolls, dispose of them or return them to their point of purchase – no receipt is required to obtain a refund.
The chemicals being blamed for this recall are known as phthalates. This family of chemicals is used to make soft, flexible vinyl plastic. According to Health Canada, they can cause “reproductive and developmental abnormalities in young children [when] sucked or chewed for extended periods.” The government agency has determined an acceptable level of phthalates that toys may contain, but these dolls apparently contained too much.
