Another day and another story of a hand sanitizer product that is not only dangerous but doesn’t even work.
Wasting your hard-earned money buying hand sanitizers that are not only harmful but don’t kill germs is never a good thing but it’s especially bad during a pandemic. Health Canada has yet again issued a recall of hand sanitizers sold at Dollarama to include all stores that carry the Daily Shield brand nationwide.
The agency says all Daily Shield-branded products are being pulled off store shelves across Canada immediately due to a presence of methanol within the product.
Health Canada is urging the public to stop using the product as it may pose serious health risks, including dermatitis, eye irritation and can be deadly if ingested.
Testing also revealed that the product’s ethanol content is not high enough to be effective in killing germs thus defeating the purpose of the product in the first place.
Health Canada encourages consumers to always read and follow the directions on product labels. The department says it will continue to monitor the situation and update their webpage where they have made available a list of approved suppliers for technical-grade ethanol and a list of manufacturers of hand sanitizers and hard-surface disinfectants.
