According to the Weather Network, Montreal and surrounding regions in Quebec are still under a severe thunderstorm watch after one tornado was spotted in Mascouche.
As seen in the tweets embedded below, various people have taken to social media to share footage of the twister as it swirled near homes and caused severe damage along the way.
The national weather agency issued a series of alerts earlier today, warning of possibly severe thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, lightning, and even tornadoes throughout several regions. The warnings covered areas ranging from Montreal's South Shore to the Quebec City region.
Depending on how much spin the atmosphere has, there is the risk for rotating storms throughout the day, however, not all rotating storms produce tornadoes. Residents in the risk zones are encouraged to stay up to date with the forecast and any watches or warnings that may be issued as the storms develop. According to CTV News, however, it is possible Quebec will get another tornado before this is over.
As a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for the Greater Montreal area, the Weather Network is reminding Quebecers to stay indoors during thunderstorms.
Environment Canada says people should take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
"Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!" Environment Canada says on its website.
