Canada has officially surpassed the percentage of fully vaccinated residents in the United States.
According to CTV News, 48.8 per cent of Canadians have been fully vaccinated, whereas the United States has only reached 48.1 per cent of their population, as of this past Sunday.
While Canada was behind many countries in the beginning of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, we have since caught up and our numbers are continuing to increase. That being said, there are still many provinces that have yet to meet their desired goal, leaving provincial governments to launch various campaigns that will encourage young people to get vaccinated.
Last week, Premier François Legault announced a vaccine lottery where Quebec will be giving away $2 million in prizes to vaccinated residents: "It is not only to reward those who are already vaccinated but also to those who will get vaccinated," said Dubé. "What we want to encourage is both first and second doses."
Should the vaccination rollout continue to progress, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has shared the possibility that Canada may open its borders to fully vaccinated U.S. citizens.
