Tomorrow marks the 34th anniversary of the École Polytechnique mass shooting. Below are some of the commemorative activities you can take part in on December 6th.
Laying of Rose Wreaths on Polytechnique’s Commemorative Plaque
Polytechnique students and staff will be placing rose wreaths on the commemorative plaque at 8:30 a.m. The school community and general public are welcome to visit the plaque, located near the student entrance, at any time.
Light Beam Ceremony on Mount Royal
14 light beams will illuminate the sky above Mount Royal at 5:10 p.m., the time when the shooting first happened. This is the 10th year that the City of Montreal, in collaboration with the Comité Mémoire, is lighting up the sky.
You can also pick up a white ribbon at Université de Montréal. The ribbons raise awareness for the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, which also takes place on December 6th of each year.
