Bobbie Jean Carter was reportedly found unresponsive in her bathroom on the day she died, just like her late brother Aaron Carter.
A spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office told TMZ on Wednesday that first responders went to Bobbie Jean's home in Tampa, Florida on Saturday morning and found her unresponsive in the bathroom. They rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was subsequently declared dead.
The spokesperson told the outlet that Bobbie Jean, 41, was on probation for cocaine possession when she died, but they did not find any drugs in her bedroom or bathroom. Additionally, her roommates reportedly told officers that Bobbie Jean had not used any narcotics since she was released from prison.
The circumstances surrounding her death, which is currently under investigation, have eerie similarities to her young brother Aaron's. The I Want Candy singer drowned in his bathtub after ingesting drugs and inhaling gas in November 2022. He was 34.
Bobbie Jean and Aaron were predeceased by their sister Leslie, who died in 2012 aged 25 due to a drug overdose. Backstreet Boys star Nick and his sister Angel are the only surviving siblings in the Carter family.
After her daughter's death, Jane Carter told TMZ, "I am in shock from learning of the sudden death of my daughter, Bobbie Jean; and I will need time to process the terrible reality of this happening for the third time. When I am able to think clearly, I’ll release a fuller statement; but until then I would request to be left to grieve in private."
Bobbie Jean, also known as BJ, served as a wardrobe stylist and make-up artist on Aaron's tours in the early 2000s and also appeared on the family reality show, House of Carters.
She is survived by her eight-year-old daughter Bella, who is reportedly in the care of her grandmother Jane.
