Given the increase in car maintenance and gas prices, it's understandable that car sharing has gained popularity in Montreal.
Communauto and the City of Montreal have revealed their plans to expand the service this year to meet the increasing demand.
Based on the announcement, there will be over 1,100 new Communauto cars throughout the city as well as the addition of the service in Lachine.
The new cars will include 85 electric cars as well as 70 minivans.
According to mayor Valérie Plante, each self-service car replaces between 7 and 11 vehicles.
The current total number of vehicles is 3,700 - with the new cars, the total will be 4,800!
