Montreal, you are no stranger to this week’s Beat of the Week! After spending weeks dominating the charts, Ella Langley’s "Choosin' Texas" takes our top spot.
Langley released the track as the lead single for her second studio album, Dandelion. The song boasts a powerhouse lineup of writers, including Luke Dick, Joybeth Taylor, and country royalty Miranda Lambert! Beyond dominating Canadian airwaves, the hit has topped the charts in Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand.
The song was born during a writing retreat after Lambert shared a hilarious story with Langley. Lambert recounted a time she was pulled over by a police officer while driving with her pet kangaroo in the passenger seat. When she noticed the officer's Texas license plate, she commented on it, inspiring Langley to write the lyric: “She’s from Texas, I can tell.”
Here at The Beat, we are massive fans of this country-pop anthem, especially our very own Cat Spencer, who is quickly becoming a certified “Ella Fella” (the official fandom name for Ella’s male fans)!
The first time I heard the song I knew it was going to be an instant classic. I still haven’t figured out exactly why… But it’s really the perfect country/pop song.
