Four boroughs in Montreal will now get their trash picked up biweekly in an effort to reduce waste.
According to the city, the changes could save taxpayers up to $41 million over seven years.
This change will start on October 1 when residents in the boroughs of Ahuntsic-Cartierville and Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension will get their garbage picked up every two weeks. There will be a second phase on November 2 for the Pierrefonds-Roxboro and L’Île-Bizard-Sainte-Geneviève neighborhoods.
There will be no change to the actual day of collection.
Other cities outside of Montreal, like Blainville and Longueuil, already follow this schedule.
